In a massive diplomatic victory for Israel and a major shakeup in the Horn of Africa, Somaliland has officially opened its embassy doors right here in Jerusalem.

By taking this bold step, Somaliland has proudly planted its flag in the city of King David rather than Tel Aviv, completely ignoring international pressure.

A Tale of Two Realities: The Contrast with Somalia

For decades, the global community has mistakenly lumped Somaliland together with Somalia. But when you look at the reality on the ground, it tells a completely different story.

While Somalia has devolved into a failed state—plagued by piracy, lawlessness, and the brutal terror of Al-Shabaab—Somaliland has quietly built a stable, peaceful, and thriving democracy. Since officially breaking away from Somalia and declaring independence in 1991, they have held free elections, minted their own currency, and kept their borders totally secure.

Yet, because of United Nations bureaucracy, Somaliland has been left out in the cold without formal international recognition.

Israel Steps Up First

Now, Israel has done what the rest of the world completely lacked the moral courage to do. The Jewish State has stepped up as the very first nation to officially recognize Somaliland’s sovereignty. When you think about it, this alliance makes perfect sense. Both Israel and Somaliland understand exactly what it means to be a lonely democracy fighting for survival and security in a deeply hostile neighborhood. By recognizing Somaliland, Israel rewards a stable, anti-terror partner in East Africa.

Deepening Historical and Strategic Ties

While this development might surprise some mainstream media pundits, ties between the Jewish people and the Horn of Africa actually run deep. In biblical times, the legendary Queen of Sheba is believed by many historians to have ruled over territories stretching across East Africa, famously visiting King Solomon right here in Jerusalem.

In the modern era, Somaliland’s strategic position along the Gulf of Aden makes it an invaluable partner for Israel’s maritime security. For years, Iran and its proxy forces, including the Houthi rebels, have attempted to choke off shipping lanes in the Red Sea. A strong alliance between Jerusalem and Hargeisa (Somaliland’s capital) serves as a powerful bulwark against radical Islamic extremism.

What This Means for Jerusalem

Every time a new nation opens an embassy here, it shatters the false narrative pushed by Israel’s detractors who claim the city is “occupied.” Jerusalem has been the beating heart of the Jewish people for over 3,000 years, ever since King David made it his capital.

This move sends a crystal-clear message: the momentum is entirely on Israel’s side. By becoming the eighth nation to set up its diplomatic mission in the capital, Somaliland joins a growing list of courageous pioneers.

Somaliland now proudly stands alongside the United States, Guatemala, Kosovo, Honduras, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, and Fiji—all of whom have recognized reality and cemented the status of Jerusalem as Israel’s eternal, undeniable capital.
